Polity
The Polity Reference Data Model provides a list of standard fields commonly found in general descriptions of a polity. Here, polity is interpreted as an organized society with a distinct government or political entity, associated with a specific population, territory, or location, and valid within a defined timespan. The model also includes information about descriptions, sources, and names relevant to the given polity.
The scope of this reference model includes polities documented in primary and secondary sources. Its goal is to offer a high-level, generalized reference data model that consolidates the most commonly used descriptors of a polity. Each field is annotated with information about its potential functionality and its relevance for instance matching across overlapping datasets.
