Rulership
The Rulership Reference Data Model provides a list of standard fields commonly found in general descriptions of a rulership. In this context, rulership is understood as the governing authority within a polity—typically the head of control—associated with a specific territory or location, and valid within a defined timespan. The model also includes information such as descriptions, sources, names, as well as details about predecessors and successors.
A rulership refers to the dynasty or ruling entity that holds power, and it may encompass multiple reigns within its duration. The scope of this reference model includes rulerships documented in primary and secondary sources. Its goal is to provide a high-level, consolidated reference data model that captures the most commonly reused descriptors of a rulership.
